June Gareau
June Gareau is a mother of 4, grandmother of eight and a wife of an extremely supportive husband, Omer.June’s inspiration stems from her late mother, Mary McCallum, whom created and produced beautiful arts and crafts with her own original designs and ideas. Her crafts varied from birch bark bitings to creating colourful beaded clothing, such as beaded jackets, moccasins and mukluks. All authentically made from the moose hides she tanned. This awesome gift inspired and encouraged June to choose the crafts she makes today.
At age 13, June began doing beadwork and made her first dress in home economics. In 1990-91, she started a home-based jewellery business after repeated encouragement from others, who were impressed by her jewellery creations.
Her first big break came when she was invited to showcase her jewellery at the Web Of Dreams show in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. June showcases her jewellery at conferences and arts and crafts shows. She also supplies gift shops across Western Canada.
June takes pride in her work by using good quality materials such as sterling silver, semi-precious stones, glass and bone beads.
In 2006, June branched out into the field of Aboriginal fashion designs by making modern clothing with an Aboriginal flair. She has showcased her clothing creations at fashion shows in various communities. June has found that designing is challenging and very rewarding because the need for such is in high demand. So much so, that, one would need a factory to continue producing the clothing.
