June's Featured Member

Brenda Gorlick


ACI Manitoba is proud to present Brenda Gorlick as June’s featured member. An accomplished choreographer and performer, Ms. Gorlick’s work has graced the stages of Canada for over three decades.

Ms. Gorlick has directed and/or choreographed many large-scale projects, including the 1999 Pan Am Games Ceremonies and the Queen’s Royal Visit. As a performer, she has starred as the Wicked Witch of the West in Rainbow Stage’s production of Wizard of Oz, Dry Cold’s production of Nine and Manitoba Theatre Centre’s Evita. She has also choreographed for and performed on film, including the Mary Kay story opposite Shirley Maclaine and Shall We Dance starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.

Brenda is a graduate of the RWB’s Professional Program, holds a degree in Theatre from the University of Winnipeg and is a Royal Conservatory of Music silver medallist in voice and piano. She is a guest instructor in the University of Winnipeg’s Dept. of Theatre and Film, tours the province as part of Manitoba Arts Council’s Artists in the Schools program and is a sought after adjudicator nationwide.

Ms Gorlick is deeply connected to the local performing arts community. She has worked with the major arts groups including the WSO, the RWB, MTC, MTYP, PTE and Cercle Molière and has created over 100 productions throughout the province. She serves on the PAGS Committee for Canadian Actors Equity, is a member-at-large for ACTRA Manitoba and is the Manitoba representative for the DTRC (Dancer Transition Resource Center).

Brenda Gorlick’s YoungStars - a troupe which is co-hosted by the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and the School of Contemporary Dancers is Brenda’s latest accomplishment. The program runs year round and offers students in-class instruction and exposure to a wide variety of production work.

Each summer, Brenda directs SummerStars - an intensive course which trains students in ’triple-threat" technique. This year’s program runs from August 18-24, 2008.
