March's Feature Member - Stephen Carroll
Stephen Carroll is a professional musician, artist manager, a student and an aspiring visual artist. Since 1998 he has been the guitarist and manager for the Winnipeg based Rock’n roll band The Weakerthans.
Over this time The Weakerthans have grown to become the most successful band of their generation to emerge from Winnipeg. They have an international reputation and are nationally beloved. The Weakerthans have now released 4 albums, and tour frequently all the major cites in the Western Hemisphere. This past year, the band won four Western Canadian Music Awards ,the XM Radio Artist of the the Year, and the SOCAN 2008 Echo prize, and are currently nominated for
2 Indy Awards, all for their late 2007 album Reunion Tour. The album was the culmination of 4 years work, and was recorded here in Winnipeg at Prairie Recording Co. Currently the band is set to launch their most ambitious Canadian tour, playing 29 shows in 23 cities. The project will be turned into a live album and documentary about the journey that takes the band from St John’s to Whitehorse over 2 months.
Stephen has worked as the band manager since joining the group, directing the bands trajectory, as well as working to maintain, develop and protect their artistic reputation and careers.
Stephen has most recently been involved in the ACI sponsored Arts and Culture Management Certificate and is also enrolled in humanities studies at the University of Winnipeg.
Stephen lives in the Lord Roberts area of Winnipeg with his beautiful and charming wife, Amanda.
