Box Office Coordinator

Manitoba Opera is a not-for-profit regional opera company that presents two mainstage productions and a concert. Reporting to the Company Manager, the Box Office Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Manitoba Opera Box Office and assist with general office administrative tasks. Primary box office duties include processing and executing all ticket sales, acting as the subscriber service agent, box office reporting, cash balancing, database management, facilitating patron mailings, and supervision of part-time staff. General administrative duties will include coordinating travel arrangements, arranging auditions, greeting visitors and assisting staff as required. Candidates should possess excellent customer relation skills and database management experience. Aboriginal Music Program Administrator

PURPOSE Reporting to the Aboriginal Music Program Coordinator, the Aboriginal Music Program Administrator is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Aboriginal Music Program to ensure the program’s effective and efficient operations. RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative • Prepare and distribute program materials such as printing and collating of contracts, course materials, and marketing materials. • Assist with marketing initiatives and research requirements on an as-needed basis. • Assist in preparation of funding applications and reporting. • Prepare general correspondence and reports. • Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to: photocopying, faxing, mailing, and filing. • Prepare facilities for meetings, workshops, and other events. • Setup and assist in the coordination of meetings and conferences. • Record and distribute minutes, notes, and action items during meetings. • Maintain program and project files. • Maintain a comprehensive Aboriginal music community database with up to date contact information for Aboriginal artists, industry, media, festivals in Canada and the United States. • Update the Aboriginal Music Program website with new copy, images, and other media as required. • Arrange travel and accommodations for staff, instructors, and participants. Outreach and Education • Attend and assist in the coordination and promotion of careers in the music industry to Aboriginal youth at career fairs, trade shows, and school presentations. • Assist in the coordination of workshops about the music industry. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED • Knowledge of the Aboriginal music community and culture, • Excellent time management and organizational skills, and working knowledge of office procedures, • Self-motivated with proven ability to efficiently manage multiple projects, • Works well under pressure, good problem-solving skills, • Good oral and written communication skills, • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point), knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign an asset, • Proficiency with office equipment (copier, printer, fax, phone systems), • Ability to work flexible hours on occasion, including weekends and evenings, • Demonstrated success at working in a flexible, dynamic, fast-paced environment. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS • Will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. • Will have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. • There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. • Must deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. • Will have duties requiring attention to detail and high levels of accuracy that may necessitate long hours in intense concentration. • The Aboriginal Music Program Administrator is located in a busy, open area office and is faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS • This is a part-time, term position at 20 hours per week. Term ends March 31, 2011 with potential for renewal dependant on funding. • Compensation is $15 per hour with benefits (after three months of employment). • Some travel may be required. • The initial three months will be probationary. Composer-in-Residence

Organization: National Youth Orchestra of Canada

Qualifications: The candidate must be an emerging artist with a demonstrated track record of composing, preferably for orchestra, and have graduated from a recognised postsecondary institution or equivalent. Responsibilities: The annual training institute is based in London at the University of Western Ontario and runs mid-June to mid July each year. The position is for a 2-year term. In year one, the NYOC will perform an existing work by the Composer- in- Residence with the possibility of a commissioned work for chamber ensemble. The composer will reside in London, ON with the NYOC for a portion of its annual training institute and work closely with faculty, conductors and the orchestra. Adequate rehearsal time, player access, advice from the faculty and conductors, and exposure to the music infrastructure provided. The Composer-in-Residence will have opportunities to work with chamber ensembles in various combinations and scale. The composer will work on the creation of a new orchestral work commissioned by the NYOC to be performed the following year. In year two, the composer will again reside with the orchestra while they learn and prepare the programs of repertoire that will include the new, commissioned work. Quilter/ Fabric Artist/ Facilitator

Organization: Community Works

Contract position to join in developing and delivering a 5 - day retreat for women. Qualifications: Creative, skilled quilter/fabric artist. Well-developed skills as a mentor and facilitator of group process and interested in working collaboratively with co-facilitators. In this retreat, participants will be introduced to psychological teachings and healing practices that are relevant to the work of building stronger families and communities. The emphasis, however, will be on using art as a storytelling process. Two art forms will be the focus of this retreat: photography and quilt-making. Through these arts, participants will explore women’s perspectives on a matter of deep importance to them - the well being of their families and communities. This workshop will be offered to women from Aboriginal communities and organizations.

Media Arts Education Workshop Facilitator

Freeze Frame Media Arts Centre and International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages is currently seeking a Media Arts Education (MAE) Workshop Facilitator. The MAE Workshop Facilitator would work closely with Freeze Frame's Education Coordinator, Executive Director (in addition to the Artistic Director), to plan, organize and implement workshops in video production, animation and pixilation as part of Freeze Frame's International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages and Media Arts Centre programming in Winnipeg, MB. Freeze Frame is Manitoba’s Media Arts Centre and International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages. The centre offers educational and cultural media arts experiences to young people and holds the annual Winnipeg International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages. Freeze Frame is a not-for-profit organization and registered Manitoba charity incorporated 14 years ago. Freeze Frame’s mandate is to provide educational opportunities for children and youth to develop media literacy, critical thinking skills, and the ability to express themselves through film and video—essential attributes in a world where communication through all media is becoming increasingly important and complex. Job Description: The successful candidate will work with Freeze Frame staff to plan, organize and implement our year round Media Arts Centre workshop programs. Under the direction of the Artistic and Executive Directors of Freeze Frame and in partnership with the Education Coordinator deliver video production, animation and media literacy workshops to children, teens and educators in both French and English. Education: Bachelor Degree in Media studies, Film or Fine Arts. Marketing and Production Coordinator

The West End Cultural Centre is a dynamic, not-for-profit arts organization enriching the lives of artists, audiences and the community through the sharing of music and culture. The West End Cultural Centre seeks a full-time Marketing and Production Coordinator to facilitate and implement the marketing and promotions of the centre and to coordinate production for WECC events. Reporting to the General Manager, the selected candidate will work with the Programming and Administrative staff of the organization and will be expected to: Develop and implement a marketing and promotions strategy for all West End productions. Complete biographic material on performers for use on the website and in press releases. Coordinate a promotion schedule and write detailed press releases for specific West End shows/events. Coordinate print ads, media, and the printing and distribution of seasonal calendars. Check all newspaper and online entertainment listings for accuracy. Prepare programs for each West End performance. Assist the Artistic Director with duties such as arranging accommodation and hospitality for performers. Work with the Artistic Director to ensure efficient scheduling of all rentals. Ensure rental contracts are completed accurately and paid in full. Mentor renters to host their own shows. Provide support for stage management, volunteer management, media releases, etc. An exciting opportunity for a leader whose strengths include creativity, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of music in a variety of genres, marketing and communications experience and experience in production or event management.
