Career Focus Internship: Artists + Community Project Assistant

ACI Manitoba is an industry-led non-profit partnership organization that addresses skills development issues and implements solutions in the arts and cultural industry sector of Manitoba. ACI Manitoba works as a uniting element to engage employers, workers, educators, professional associations and government in a strategic alliance that is focused on implementing solutions to the specific skills and human resource needs that will enable the Manitoban arts and cultural sector to thrive.

Purpose

To provide an opportunity for a recent post secondary graduate seeking full time employment to have a meaningful work experience that leads to further employment opportunities within the arts and cultural sector.

The internship will provide a chance to work on a major project that is becoming a new program area for ACI Manitoba. The Artists + Community strategy will create a professional development program that educates artists who want to engage community using arts-based projects. It will also educate the wider community about arts-based community development practices.

This internship will allow opportunities for learning project management and program development skills, community collaboration best practices, major event management, as well as excellent networking opportunities with established teaching artists, including national visitors to Winnipeg.

Eligibility

Under age 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection
Post-secondary graduate
Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred
Out of school
Unemployed or under-employed
Not having more than 4 years work experience in their field
Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
Not participating as part of co-op, certificate or credit programs with any college, university or training Institution

Note: Post-secondary graduates are limited to participation in one Career Focus project.

Primary Responsibilities

Help implement ACI Manitoba’s Artists + Community strategy
Provide feedback and participate in the ongoing development of the marketing and communications strategy
Update parts of the Creative Manitoba website
Support publishing of weekly e- newsletters
Provide support for ACI Manitoba events and trainings
Participate in appropriate training programs
Work with Executive Director on research and development initiatives
Provide office and administrative support within an open office environment
Interact with public and membership in person, online and on the phone to take registrations, memberships and field general questions.

Working Conditions and Environment

35 hours per week for 22 weeks
Wages: $13.50 per hour
Respectful workplace
Open concept office setting in the heart of the Exchange District
Accessible with some limitations
Within walking distance from most major bus routes

Knowledge and Skills Required

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Solid knowledge of 2007 Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Above average organizational ability
Research skills
Creative team player with a positive attitude
Experience in arts and culture
