Mary Hawn is presently Director of the Division of Preparatory Studies as well Acting Coordinator for the Suzuki Program at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. She’s also the music director and organist of St. James Presbyterian Church. Formerly head of the Theory and Composition Department at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, Mary is a member of the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers Association and other professional organizations.

A lifetime of teaching has not diminished her commitment to or love of the task, whether exercised as a piano/theory teacher, worship music leader, or through administrative positions. She also loves writing, and has created compositions for choral ensemble with eight new works performed between 2009 and the present, and has written articles in the Prep newsletter, “Pausa” among others.

More than anything, the message Mary would like to share is that everyone is an artist, that Life itself is the Art, and that finding one’s true voice is synonymous with finding a heart for service.
