Cluster is Winnipeg’s most dynamic take on contemporary art and sound. Revolving around an annual core festival which takes place in Winnipeg, MB in March, Cluster is a platform for artists to create, to experiment, and to collaborate. Cluster is propelled by strength found in numbers and the energy created by integrating diverse artistic communities – combining collective mentality with individual sensibility.

This year’s Cluster Festival (March 24-26, 2011) kicks off with Alexandra Fol performing a dazzling set of organ music amidst a video-drenched landscape of shifting majesty, memory and nostalgia. Cluster’s second evening delves into the physical and musical mutability of performers through collective exploration and individual experimentation, featuring Freya Olafson's seminal intermedia dance work, AVATAR, and an eclectic musical collective led by Vancouver new music giant, Giorgio Magnanensi. The festival finale, BLITZ! is an electric, ecstatic, absurd and astounding arts extravaganza overtaking five floors of a warehouse in the Exchange. The evening will culminate in a frenetic, magnetic, red-blooded dance party.

Created and curated by local composers Luke Nickel and Heidi Ugrin, Cluster is quickly becoming a vital fixture on the Winnipeg scene. What began as a single thread of boundless enthusiasm has evolved into a complex set of ideals and goals. Along with the annual festival, Cluster collaborates with individuals and organizations to create events throughout the year, engaging and enriching both Winnipeg and the greater artistic community. Cluster continues to promote programming that is unapologetic in its innovation, and unrelenting in its optimism and integrity, forging a new path forward through joyous exploration of endless possibility.
