I create ceramic sculptural forms, mainly based on my research and obsession with traditional West and South African crafts. My first passion is, of course, ceramics. Traditionally a woman’s craft throughout the African continent, African ceramics possess an intricate lexicon of forms and decoration that is both rigid in canon and very unique to the individual Artisan. I also find myself drawn to the male produced forms of metal works of Iron and Bronze. From weaponry to farming equipment, the forms inspire in me a sense of foreboding and allure. These two fire born industries are connected intimately, for hundreds of years, potters and iron workers have shared lore and magic that inspires and fuels my kilns and my passion with clay.
