About the Show:
The vision of two Winnipeg artists whose paintings showcase their shared love of the landscape. The endless prairie vistas of central Manitoba and the eastern edge of the province where the Canadian Shield spills over Ontario’s border are the subject matter of their representation paintings. Deep emotional attachment to the natural spectacle of their homeland has coloured and permeated their perceptions. The work seeks to bear witness to the observed, tinted by the imagined.
About the Artists:
Ruth Kamenev
Born and educated in Winnipeg, and received a diploma from Red River College and then a bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba in Zoology. Working and raising a family demanded my attention until I could take a single watercolour class from a gifted teacher with the City of Winnipeg. I was hooked. More years of concentrated self-study and practice taught me skills to paint mainly in watercolour and recently in acrylics. I am a founding member of Local Colour Art Group and am represented by the Wayne Arthur Gallery and Savoir Faire. I have been in many group shows with Local Colour, winning a People’s Choice award in 2010, with Art Rocks, Fresh Paint as well as the Manitoba Artist’s Society open juried art show, winning the Lynn Sisson Memorial Watercolour Award in 2009 and 2010.
Luba Olesky
I came to Canada from Germany, and have always felt closely tied with the immigrant experience. In 1967, I graduated from U of M as teacher and in 1983 I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Later, I pursued a career in psychiatric nursing, and continued to develop my artistic sensibilities. Currently I am a member of The Manitoba Society of Artists, Local Colour Art group, and the Gwen Fox Gallery in Selkirk, Manitoba.

As a Manitoba cottage-owner baby, my youthful world was divided between two solitudes: my beloved city of Winnipeg and the serenity of cottage country. Growing up surrounded by jack pines and grey jays, by lake water and clear skies, I could not help being infused with a deep love of nature. In my paintings, I hope to convey the respect and joy that the Prairies and Canadian Shield inspire in me, and occasionally to showcase our beautiful city and its many fascinating elements.
Luba Olesky
I love to paint Manitoba landscapes, especially the boundless prairie sky, and endless vistas devoid of people (usually). This is the time when I feel in touch with my inner self and find contentment, far removed from the pull of daily life.
