Art of Managing Your Career

A Course for Self-employed Artists: Developed by artists and cultural workers

AMYC will help you to:

Who is the course designed for?

The course is open to anyone with an existing arts practice including actors, craftspeople, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, new media content creators, visual artists and writers. If you are a self-employed artist, or looking to increase the portion of your employment derived from your art, then this course is for you.

How do I apply?

Intake for the upcoming Winnipeg winter session is now closed. Please check back over the summer for additional information on our AMYC program and future Winnipeg sessions.

Intake is currently open for our upcoming Brandon AMYC cohort. This session will be taking place at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba on March 10, 31, April 14, and 28, 2012. Application deadline in March 5. Applications can be emailed in or mailed to our office.

Course Instructor: Gerry Atwell

Gerry Atwell is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Winnipeg. Over the past 3 decades he has produced work at the professional level in music, theatre, radio, film, television and the visual arts as a curator. Gerry won the 1995 Prairie Waves II screen writing competition with his teleplay “Hands of Ida”. Directed by Guy Maddin, “Hands of Ida” aired on Global TV in 1996 winning a Blizzard Award and a Gemini nomination. Gerry has written radio drama for CBC and his stage plays have been produced in Toronto by Factory Theatre, World Stage Festival and the AfriCanadian Playwrights Festival. As a musician and songwriter, Gerry won a 2001 Juno Award with the band Eagle and Hawk.
