New Media Manitoba presents Switching: Moving from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere CS6

May 23, 2013 from 9am-5pm at New Media Manitoba (1000 Waverley Street)
$99.95

With Apple’s decidedly controversial decision to re-imagine its industry standard non- linear editor with Final Cut X many long time users have been left frustrated pondering an uncertain future. With years of familiarity and hard-drives filled with legacy projects switching can seem like a daunting task to any seasoned editor.

Adobe Premiere CS 6 makes this migration process as painless as possible and offers so many useful features and upgrades over Final Cut Pro that switching has never made more sense. Maximize the power of a modern 64bit NLE with advanced editing functions and a refined user interface. (1-day 9:30am - 5:30pm)

The day's topics will include:

  • Why Should I Switch? Key features of Premiere
  • Interface and Preferences Tour
  • Using XML to easily move between FCP and Premiere
  • Importing and Organization
  • Edit Functions Basic to Advanced
  • Audio Editing (Including Audition)
  • Using Effects and Titles (Including After Effects)
  • Exporting using Encoder
  • Media Management and Archiving
  • Q+A- How do you do that in Premiere?

If you have any questions or want more information regarding the FCP to Premiere course, please email Kert Gartner, our Certification Co-ordinator at kert@newmediamanitoba.com.

Manitoba Editors' Association presents Essential skills for editors in the digital age

Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 1-4pm
Members $35; Non-Members $50; Students $25

RSVP: Please contact meaworkshops@gmail.com to let us know you're coming so we can save you a seat. Space is limited!

The rapid growth of online media is creating jobs in the editing field. The important role of social media highlights the importance of organizing material, often for different media platforms. Editors discover order, create it or impose it on material from many sources. Their motivation is to help the audience find and understand material by organizing it in ways that make sense. The workshop on May 25 will teach essential skills for editing in the digital age and will focus on the following skills:

  • Analyzing websites for user-centred editing—target market, purpose, viewpoint, visuals, quality of editing, name of person who first registered it, etc.
  • Understanding the differences between online and print editing.

Duncan McMonagle teaches in the Creative Communication program at Red River College, and is a former Executive Editor at the Winnipeg Free Press. His course in Online Editing contains elements that belong in every editor's bag of tricks, whether you work freelance or in-house. This workshop borrows elements from that course.
