Basic Grant Writing Summer Intensive

August 24, 2011

Date: August 24, 2011 - 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
(Morning and afternoon coffee breaks provided; participants on own for one hour lunch break.)

Location: Human Resource Management Association of Manitoba (HRMAM) classroom
1700-275 Portage Avenue | Winnipeg, MB
(17th Floor, corner of Portage and Smith)

Cost:  ACI Members $25; Non members $50 (includes ACI individual membership)

The Basic Grant Writing Summer Intensive aims to help Manitoban artists and arts presenters increase their chances of obtaining funding through grant writing skills development. Participants will be introduced to government granting bodies and receive basic information and practical experience on grant writing.

Anatomy of a Grant Seminar

  • Become familiar with the granting process/how it works
  • Understand the main components of grant applications
  • Recognize the phases involved in creating a grant application

Dissection of a Grant Hands-On Workshop #1
Participants will be guided to develop these parts of their grant applications in this workshop:

  1. Learn some helpful writing techniques for writing with a purpose
  2. State the project origin
  3. Develop goals and objectives
  4. Identify who will be involved in the project – participants and partners
  5. Define the benefit of your project

Dissection of a Grant Hands-On Workshop #2
Participants will be guided in further step–by-step development of their grant application:

  1. Learn some visual brainstorming and organizing techniques
  2. Brainstorm and create a draft outline of the project
  3. Begin to create a detailed project plan outlining the specific activities that will take place
  4. Draft a project timetable or working schedule
  5. Understand what research is needed to develop a budget

Important: All participants should come prepared with well developed project idea and/or specific grant(s) for which they wish to apply.

Other information:

  • Confirmed presenters: Gerry Atwell, Bev Pike, Todd Besant and Liz Barron
  • There will be an industry display area with relevant resources
  • There will be opportunities to network and ask questions
  • The Basic Grant Writing Summer Intensive will be followed by an Advanced Grant Writing Summer Intensive on Aug 31.
