Archives Intern

Wage: $11.00/hour, 32 hours/week

Border Crossings Magazine is seeking an Archives Intern who will assist Border Crossings staff in facilitating the preparation and transfer of magazine materials to archival holdings at Archives & Special Collections, University of Manitoba.

Under the direction of Border Crossings staff, the Archives Intern will:

  • Sort, organize and prepare archived materials from the 35-year history of the magazine
  • Assist in facilitating the transfer of physical materials to Archives & Special Collections, University of Manitoba
  • Prepare description of materials for internal records
  • Compile detailed records of materials transferred

As the materials are contemporary art historical documents, a familiarity with the visual arts and literature is considered an advantage. No previous archival experience necessary. The position is based in Winnipeg and all work will occur at the office of Border Crossings.

Funding for this position is made possible by the financial assistance from the Government of Canada, Canada Summer Jobs program. As such, all applicants must:

  1. Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  2. Have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
  3. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  4. Be legally entitled to working according to Province of Manitoba legislation and regulations
