House Audio Technician

Pantages Playhouse Theatre

This is a permanent, on-call position throughout the year that typically is busiest between March and July. The House Audio Technician is a capable audio technician who provides exceptional client service for all clients of the Pantages Playhouse Theatre.

Responsibilities

Provide client service to current & potential renters of the theatre by:

  • Meeting with new clients to discuss their audio needs and provide facility walk-throughs
  • Taking care of clients’ audio requirements utilizing the theatre’s equipment
  • Advising clients on audio equipment & crew requirements for their events
  • Liaising with the Head Carpenter to determine audio crew requirements for events
     
  • In conjunction with the Head Carpenter & Head Electrician, ensure the smooth operation of stage activities, including load-in, load-out, rehearsals, technical rehearsals & performances
     
  • Operate and/or set-up rented sound equipment provided by client or local production companies
  • Assist touring sound departments.  Provide tie-in options for power, communication, House sound system and video lines
  • Direct local crew assigned to audio for larger productions
  • Maintain the House sound systems, log any faults and report issues to Head Carpenter
  • Be familiar with House audio and video infrastructure & inventory
  • Maintain a log of set-up and show notes for annual/recurring clients
  • Assist Head Carpenter and House lighting technician in their duties when needed

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of current live sound mixing, PA system setup/operation. Experience with recording and editing techniques an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the various types and patterns of microphones & equipment and the appropriate uses of the technology
  • Experience in broadcast audio an asset
  • Degree or certificate in audio electronics or equivalent experience
  • Some background in music and musical theatre, ability to read music is an asset
  • Experience in creating and operating sound for the theatre
  • Strong knowledge of audio console setup & operation
  • Understanding of wiring, and patching of sound systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair cables and connectors
  • Must be a member of IATSE local 63 in good standing or willing to join
